Norway

DH and I will take another vacation from August 10-22, 2019 when we will be traveling to Norway and enjoy a round trip to see the fjords. We booked this vacation at Kras and met some lovely people in our group. Our busdriver and host are Dutch and a couple (Willem and Elly), so they were great together, and always complement each other in the given information. Willem knows his facts about geology, whereas Elly knows a lot about the Norwegian culture and history. They showed us some marvellous places, like Oslo, Bergen, Trondheim and  Alesund. While in the bus, driving the Peer Gynt Road,  Elly told us the story of Peer Gynt, a "fairy tale" specfic for Norway and made us listen to some the music that was especially composed for this story. We also drove the Trollstigen, a very steep, winding road near the Geirangerfjord. We also took the train from Flam to Myrdal in the Auerlandfjord

We have seen lots of waterfalls and even drove an extra round on a roundabout that has been built inside a mountain! Norway is quite expensive, but a beautiful country in the Northern part of Europe. 

citytrip Edinburgh

A little bit unexpected, we found ourselves going to Edinburgh on a short citytrip, just in between working days. We left Sunday April 28 and arrived back home May 1, 2019. Edinburgh in Scotland is a really nice city for a few days to explore. It has a castle upon a hill, some great old (very old) buildings to discover and there is the Royal Mile, where you can stroll along and walk all the way down to the Palace of Hollyrood. Scottish people are very friendly, the food is great and the atmosphere layed back and relax, bagpipe music all over town and a hop-on-hop-off bus to get around. Edinburgh is also the birthplace of Harry Potter, that is, this is the place where J.K. Rowling started writing her books in the Elephant House. We also took a great walking tour (for free) to see most of the Harry Potter related sightseeings, like the Greyfriars Kirkyard.

 

Costa Rica

2019 will bring me to Costa Rica for the second time in my life, but this time my DD Joyce will accompany me. She has never been there, and nature lover (and animal lover) as she is, she had her heart set on the beautiful nature of Costa Rica. I have been there before (in 2010 I believe), but at that time we had rain season, so I love to be able to return when the weather is fine. We hope to see lots of animals, like sloths, poison frogs, colourful birds, coatimundi's, maybe even tarantula's. We booked this vacation at Fox, from March 12 - March 27, 2019.
